The taste of a Himalayan spring morning — in every sip
Darjeeling First Flush Tea
When the tea bushes of Giddapahar Tea Estate awaken from their winter hibernation each spring, they produce leaves of extraordinary delicacy. Hand-plucked between March and April from century-old China bush cultivars that have thrived on the misty slopes of Kurseong Valley since the 1890s, our First Flush “Delight” is among the earliest and most coveted harvests of the Darjeeling season.
Giddapahar — meaning “Eagle’s Cliff” in Nepali — sits at an elevation of 4,300–5,200 ft above sea level in the southern reaches of Darjeeling. This altitude, combined with the estate’s unique microclimate of cool mist, well-drained Himalayan soil, and the Shaw family’s four generations of unbroken stewardship since 1881, produces a tea of remarkable purity and complexity. With just 90 hectares under cultivation and an annual output of approximately 30,000 kg, each tea flush is a limited, traceable, single-estate release.
Darjeeling First Flush Tea
The First Flush leaves undergo a careful hard-withering process — a traditional Darjeeling technique that rapidly reduces moisture content to lock in the tea’s signature nuanced aromatics. The result is a light, luminous liquor with a glowing golden-green hue that speaks of purity. On the palate, expect a bright opening of fresh white flowers and lemon blossom, layered with notes of green apple, grape skin, and a whisper of honey — finishing with Giddapahar’s celebrated caramel-like warmth.
Whether you are a lifelong Darjeeling devotee or discovering single-estate teas for the first time, the Giddapahar First Flush Delight is a seasonal treasure to be savoured slowly — a cup that carries within it the clean mountain air, the morning mist, and the craft of generations.
